Demant, the Denmark-based parent group of Oticon, Bernafon, and several leading hearing care diagnostic companies, announced it has signed an agreement to sell its EPOS headset business to ACCO Brands in a deal valued at €7MM (≈US$8.2 MM) plus up to €3 million (US$3.5 MM) tied to future milestones. Demant said the decision follows a strategic review of its Communications area, concluding EPOS would be better positioned with a different owner. Closing is subject to customary conditions and is expected in January 2026.
The EPOS sale represents the last major step in a multi-year effort to streamline Demant around hearing aids and related diagnostic equipment. In May 2024, after a UK anti-trust authority blocked the sale of its Ponto bone-anchored hearing systems (BAHS) to Cochlear Ltd, the group divested its cochlear implant (CI) business to the company for a zero headline purchase price.
Demant has also been unwinding the rest of its former Hearing Implants footprint: in 2025 it signed an agreement to sell Oticon Medical’s BAHS systems to the private equity firm Impilo, with Demant describing total contractual considerations of up to DKK 600MM (≈US$94 MM) and transitional support to help stand the business up independently.
Søren Nielsen, Demant President & CEOThe divestment of EPOS marks the final milestone of our decision to sharpen our strategic focus on our core Hearing Healthcare business, and I’m confident that ACCO Brands will be a good new owner of EPOS. I would like to express my gratitude to the employees of EPOS for their dedication and commitment during this process and to wish each of them success under the future ownership.
With divestments largely behind it, Demant’s portfolio is now concentrated on hearing aids, hearing care retail, and diagnostics—including expansion moves such as the 2022 acquisition of China’s ShengWang retail chain and this year’s recently concluded purchase of Germany’s KIND network to broaden its clinic footprint. With these major acquisitions, HearingTracker estimates that Demant is the second-largest hearing aid retailer worldwide, behind only Amplifon.
Demant updated its 2025 outlook for discontinued operations and said it expects no financial impact from discontinued operations in 2026 once the EPOS divestment closes.
