About Widex
Widex is one of the largest hearing aid brands in the world. Founded in 1956 in Denmark by Christian Tøpholm, a gifted Swiss engineer, and Erik Westermann, a savvy Danish entrepreneur. Both had worked for Oticon hearing aid Founder William Demant. The company experienced considerable success and growth. Today, Widex hearing aids specialize in innovative ways to deliver the best possible sound quality and performance in real-life situations.
In March 2019, Widex merged with Sivantos, which includes Rexton and Signia (formerly Siemens Hearing Instruments). The combined parent company, WS Audiology (WSA), is now the third-largest hearing aid company in the world and is still largely controlled by the Tøpholm and Westermann families. Its world headquarters are in Lynge, Denmark, with US headquarters in Hauppauge, NY.
It is expected that ownership will soon take WSA public with an IPO.
Notable Widex hearing aid features and technologies
Widex is a huge innovator in the world of hearing aids. Along with the first DSP in-ear hearing aid (Widex Senso in 1995), machine learning, and ultra-fast processing, Widex has a long-standing reputation as being the best hearing aid brand for musicians, with many rating Widex as the best brand for natural music reproduction.
Widex was also the first company to pioneer longer attack/release times in hearing aid sound processing, which ultimately led to variable-speed compression that makes hearing aids sound "smoother" when in complex listening situations like music and noise. Widex is also a pioneer in tinnitus relief, due in part to its Zen Fractal Technology, which offers a variety of sound therapy solutions for both the user and hearing care provider. Zen Fractal Technology is available in all hearing aid models.
Widex rechargeable hearing aids
MOMENT SHEER is one of the smallest rechargeable lithium-ion RIC on the market. The MOMENT rechargeables represent Widex's first foray into lithium-ion technology. Previously Widex worked with ZPower to supply retrofit silver-zinc rechargeable battery solutions for the older Evoke product line; however, with lithium-ion becoming the de facto rechargeable solution, all hearing aid manufacturers are now developing lithium-ion solutions.
