Eargo Hearing Aids in 2026: Models, Features, Prices and Performance Reviews

Eargo is a Silicon Valley-based direct-to-consumer (DTC) hearing aid brand best known for its advanced, virtually invisible, completely-in-canal (CIC) devices. Designed for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss, Eargo over-the-counter hearing aids combine sleek aesthetics with rechargeability and remote support—appealing to consumers looking for discreet, easy-to-use solutions outside of the traditional audiology clinic model.

Eargo’s signature product line features tiny open-fit completely-in-canal (CIC) devices that sit entirely within the ear canal, using patented soft silicone tips—called Flexi Palms—to stay in place comfortably without blocking airflow or occluding the ear. This patented design, which reduces the occlusion effect (i.e., your own voice sounding like you're inside a barrel), has allowed the company to stand out in a market dominated by behind-the-ear and receiver-in-canal models.

Historically, Eargo has also had a unique market strategy. Rather than competing with low-priced online hearing aid marketers, the company has competed primarily with more expensive custom prescription hearing aids sold in clinics by audiologists and hearing aid specialists.

In a recent interview, Eargo told HearingTracker that it does this by combining a unique, advanced OTC product with extensive customer support. We wouldn't argue with that, but it also means the company offers comparatively pricier products—its flagship Eargo 8 CIC is $2,699—in a new era where you can purchase good OTC hearing aids for under $1,200 online or prescription aids for under $1,600 at Costco.

Featuring a new earbud-style form factor, rechargeability, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a price tag of $799, Link by Eargo is one of the company's latest offerings and a departure from the company's usual tiny CIC devices.
Featuring a new earbud-style form factor, rechargeability, Bluetooth audio streaming, and a price tag of $799, Link by Eargo is one of the company's latest offerings and a departure from the company's usual tiny CIC devices.

That's what makes Eargo's newest products— Link by Eargo ($799) and Eargo SE ($1,699)—particularly exciting. They represent a departure from this strategy and the company’s first real foray into head-to-head price competition with mid- and premium-priced OTC hearing aids. Frankly, while Eargo offers good high-tech products and service for consumers looking for discreet in-ear hearing solutions, it has been difficult to recommend them unless cost isn't a major purchasing factor.

Based in San Jose, Calif, with a customer support center in Nashville (as well as a remote workforce nationwide), Eargo is known for its solid online service and support. Professionally led onboarding and expert support are often-overlooked factors in consumers’ hearing aid selection process. It's even more critical for smaller in-the-ear devices that are more susceptible to comfort issues, breakdowns, or repairs. Although you'll pay more for this service, it can be the difference between using these devices short-term or enjoying and benefiting from them for 3+ years.

Below, we'll tell you everything you need to know about Eargo and their hearing aids, including product features, the results of our testing, and the onboarding process. To see more details on each product, please click on the product links in boldface type.

Eargo 8 and Eargo 7 CIC Hearing Aids

Launched in May 2025, Eargo 8 is the company’s flagship CIC model and builds upon its predecessors with improved personalization features. The device includes Smart Sound Adjust, an adaptive sound processing system that learns from the user’s listening environments over time to deliver increasingly customized amplification. Eargo 8 and other Eargo models also include Sound Match, an onboard hearing screening tool that allows wearers to personalize the device’s gain based on their own hearing profile, without visiting a clinic.

Eargo 8 is rechargeable with an advertised battery life of 16 hours per full charge. It comes with a compact magnetic charging case that stores 14 additional full recharges—enough power for about 2 weeks of on-the-go charging! It has a top-notch Ingress Protection rating (IP68) for protection against moisture and dirt, but does not support Bluetooth audio or call streaming. While it can be purchased over the counter, it is also eligible for reimbursement and professional support when ordered through a licensed provider.

Although being phased out by Eargo 8, you’ll still find some Eargo 7 CICs on the market. Released in 2022, this device introduced Eargo’s original version of environment-based automatic sound adjustment, Sound Adjust. Though not as advanced as the adaptive learning in the Eargo 8, it allows the device to switch between listening profiles based on ambient noise levels. Eargo 7 also improved upon earlier models with better water resistance and enhanced feedback suppression. It retained Eargo’s discreet CIC form factor, rechargeable battery, and signature open-fit comfort. It is still a strong option for those seeking simplicity and invisibility without the added cost of adaptive learning.

The independent HearAdvisor lab test results for both Eargo 7 and Eargo 8 show good performance for speech in quiet but relatively poorer results for speech in noise, giving them SoundGrades of a "B" and "C", respectively.

Link by Eargo In-the-Ear Hearing Aid

In early 2024, Eargo made its first foray into Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids with the launch of Link by Eargo. Unlike the company’s traditional CIC devices, Link adopts a hybrid in-the-ear (ITE) form factor that resembles a small earbud, allowing more space for additional components, including Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free calling for compatible devices.

ADVERTISEMENTad for ReSound

Looking like a small, high-tech audio device, Link is controlled through the Eargo mobile app, which enables users to adjust volume, switch programs, and receive remote support from hearing professionals. While Link lacks the ultra-discreet appearance of the Eargo 8 or 7, it opens the door to full-featured streaming for consumers looking to combine hearing support with modern wireless convenience.

Link by Eargo offers a battery runtime of approximately 9 hours per charge in hearing aid mode, which makes it more of a situational-use product. However, its pocket-sized charging case can deliver up to 4 extra charges while on the go, making it more versatile.

In HearAdvisor testing, Link by Eargo achieved a "B" SoundGrade, but narrowly (by 0.1 points!) missed an "A" and the independent lab's Expert Choice Award. In other words, it's a high performing hearing aid wrapped in a small package. At this writing, it sits in the top 30% of devices in the OTC category and in the top 40% of all devices tested by the lab.

Eargo SE CIC Hearing Aid

Released alongside Eargo Link in January 2025, Eargo SE is the company's value-focused version of the Eargo 8, designed to deliver the brand’s hallmark comfort and invisibility at a more affordable price. While it omits some of the personalization and adaptive features found in the Eargo 7 and 8, the SE retains the same CIC design, rechargeable battery, and open-fit feel that many customers prefer. And it costs $1,699—a full $1,000 less than Eargo 8.

ADVERTISEMENTad for ReSoundADVERTISEMENTad for Phonak

Eargo SE is best suited for individuals seeking a simple, invisible hearing solution without Bluetooth or advanced programmability. Like the Eargo 8, the SE model delivers up to 16 hours of use per full charge. The SE’s charging case supports up to 5 full charge cycles, which covers multiple days of usage before requiring recharging.

Unfortunately, the HearAdvisor lab and HearingTracker have not yet had the opportunity to evaluate Eargo SE.

How Getting Eargo Hearing Aids Works

Like most OTC hearing aids, you generally order the devices through the Eargo website or other online retailers like Amazon and Best Buy. Some Eargo models are offered in hearing aid clinics; for example, Eargo 7-Rx and SE-Rx hearing aids are available for prescription fitting by hearing care providers. However, for the most part, Eargo depends on direct-to-consumer access and remote support for most of its distribution.

Some health-benefit platforms and hearing benefit providers, such as UnitedHealthcare Hearing and EPIC Hearing Healthcare, also offer Eargo devices as part of their OTC offerings. It's wise to check your health insurance policy, because the aids may be available at reduced costs or covered under insurance benefits, where eligibility criteria apply.

Except for possible differences in the trial and warranty periods between retailer/websites (make sure to check these), the online service and support you'll get from Eargo will be the same. So shop around and pick the best deal you can.

1) Unboxing and Initial Setup

When your Eargo hearing aids arrive, the package includes everything needed to get started: two hearing devices, different sizes of Flexi Palm tips (both open and closed), microphone caps, a USB‑C charging case, cleaning tools, instructions, and documentation. You’ll need to install the Eargo app and fully charge the device in the included charging case (this typically takes about 4 hours). Once this is done, you can remove the hearing aids from their case; they’ll automatically power on and you can then pair the charger to the app via Bluetooth and allow the app to detect and register your Eargo devices and charger.

Be sure to take advantage of the Eargo app, which includes numerous tutorials to guide you through the onboarding process, subsequent use, and any potential troubleshooting.

2) Tuning Eargo Hearing Aids to Your Unique Hearing Needs

You have two options for tuning your hearing aid: the Eargo app or via an audiogram. Using the app, the SoundMatch program guides you through a 10-minute self-administered hearing screening (make sure to do this in a very quiet room). It then tunes the device to your unique hearing loss profile.

Sound Match is a self-fitting program designed to personalize your Eargo hearing aids to your own unique hearing loss profile.
Sound Match is a self-fitting program designed to personalize your Eargo hearing aids to your own unique hearing loss profile.

The final step of Sound Match involves choosing the listening environments that are most appropriate for your lifestyle. These are then personalized based on the hearing assessment results. Sound Match can be repeated anytime from the app Menu.

At HearingTracker, we always recommend getting a professionally administered hearing test (audiogram) in a soundproof booth. Although it may cost you $150-200 more, you’ll get an examination of your ear canal and a more precise audiogram. If you decide on this route, you can send the audiogram directly to Eargo, and they’ll program the device accordingly with the more-accurate information.

3) Proper Insertion, Adjustment, and Guidance

Eargo supplies you with various-sized eartips, several of which you may need to try before you find the best one for your ears. For Eargo 8/7 and SE, you can adjust the fit by using the removal thread grip and pulling the device in/out and rotating it slightly.

When you register your devices, Eargo will invite you to a free orientation (called "Eargo 101”). Be sure to take advantage of this. During the session, the Eargo hearing care provider walks you through the finer points of the setup, app functions, and what you can expect in the first weeks of adjusting to life with better hearing. Virtually everyone who gets hearing aids for the first time will notice certain sounds are louder, as your brain adjusts to frequencies it has not received (often for years). Eargo 101 can help you fine-tune and optimize your device.

Further adjustments to the sound settings and programs can be made within the Eargo app at any time.

4) Ongoing Support and Service

Eargo provides a 45-day trial period, allowing returns for credit for any reason. The company also gives you access to support from their US-based hearing professionals for the lifetime of their devices. As noted above, additional support can be obtained through the app and video tutorials, or via email and phone call assistance.

Who is Eargo?

Founded in 2010 by ENT surgeon Dr. Florent Michel and his son Raphael Michel, Eargo is one of the "OGs” of OTC hearing aid manufacturers—offering a quality “online direct-to-consumer (DIY) hearing solution” even before the FDA established the OTC category in October 2022. A NASDAQ-listed company, it was among the first to gain FDA clearance for its OTC hearing aids.

Around this same time, Eargo had an unfortunate run-in with the Department of Justice, which alleged Eargo had submitted improper insurance reimbursement claims to pay for customers’ hearing aids. Eargo denied the allegations and eventually reached a settlement, but the whole affair put the company in a financially difficult situation.

In November 2023, Eargo announced a definitive partnership with Patient Square Capital, a venture capital firm, which then took the company private. In March 2025, Patient Square provided $100 million in new funding for a merger between Eargo and Lexie Hearing and its parent group, hearX. The new combined parent company is called LXE Hearing, but both Eargo and Lexie continue to have their own distinctive branding and products. Eargo focuses on in-the-ear solutions, while Lexie focuses on behind-the-ear solutions.

In a recent interview with HearingTracker, LXE former President and CEO Nic Klopper enthused about the two companies’ individual strengths and how they now have a “complete product solution that hits different price points and form factors for consumers that previously we've not had access to.” He also noted that the merger broadens consumer choices, helps with supply chain issues, and strengthens relations with third-party sellers, among other benefits.

Final Verdict

Eargo is a reputable, established OTC hearing aid brand that continues to be a leader in invisible, rechargeable devices, offering a premium consumer experience without requiring in-person appointments. The company is often included as a solid (but historically pricier) choice in HearingTracker’s roundups of OTC Hearing Aids, Best Invisible Hearing Aids, and Rechargeable Hearing Aids, where the company’s products generally receive high marks for form factor, ease of use, and service and support.

Alternatives to Eargo Products

People looking for an OTC hearing aid in an almost-invisible completely-in-canal (CIC) form factor have more limited options compared to devices involving receiver-in-canal (RIC) or traditional behind-the-ear (BTE) styles. It should be noted that, while there are a lot of OTC CICs on the market, most are not self-fitting (i.e., they rely on pre-set programs that are less likely to match your hearing loss profile), don't have high sound quality, and lack good support—a particularly important factor for smaller devices that can require repairs or service over time.

However, the Sony CRE-C10 is a solid pick for $700. Launched in 2022 in partnership with WS Audiology—which also makes ReSound and Beltone hearing aids—it is one of the best discreet self-fitting hearing aids on the market, offering good sound quality, speech enhancement, and comfort. The independent HearAdvisor lab gave it an "A" SoundGrade, earning it an Expert Choice Award. The CRE-C20 is Sony's rechargeable CIC version, which is offered for about $900.

Zepp Pixie Clarity is an OTC self-fitting CIC hearing aid, usually sold for about $1,000, that features a good mobile app, tap controls, and all-day battery life. It narrowly missed getting an "A” SoundGrade and Expert Choice Award from the HearAdvisor lab.

Although Eargo and the above products are good OTC hearing aids, it's hard to beat a prescription-fit custom-made CIC for sound quality, comfort, and long-term support. However, they are generally more expensive than RIC or BTE devices, and can put a dent in your wallet (usually $4,000+ per pair). Check out the Starkey Edge AI, Phonak Virto Infinio, or Signia Silk Charge&Go product lines, as well as the less-expensive Philips HearLink in-ear hearing aids at Costco.
