Professional service and support are extremely important in hearing care—a key reason why HearingTracker always emphasizes that a prescription-fit hearing aid purchased from a skilled and reputable audiologist or hearing aid specialist is the gold standard in hearing healthcare. But what if you want at least some professional service but don't want to pay $2,000 to $6,000+ for it? In this article, we'll provide you with some solid options for online over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids, as well as online prescription hearing aids, that come with good service and support.

Why does a service- and support-based ranking matter?

HearingTracker and the independent HearAdvisor testing lab have partnered to review and rate hearing aids. HearAdvisor's scoring focuses primarily on acoustic performance, like listening in quiet and noisy environments; HearingTracker scoring takes into account other factors, like comfort, battery life, build quality, etc., and includes manufacturer service and support.

However, one could argue that we underweight the latter in our calculations—particularly for first-time users and for those who intend to use their hearing aids for many years.

That's because, no matter how good a hearing aid might be, even the best must first be customized to your unique hearing loss (preferably by a skilled professional) for best results. And no hearing aid is immune to malfunction, requiring maintenance or repair.

The good news is that all trustworthy brands offer trial periods and full refunds, and some—like those featured here—also provide good online service and support. The bad news: Many online products are essentially garbage, offering very little recourse for returns, seeking assistance with, or repairing them.

The bottom line is that companies that have made a considerable investment to build a pro support staff are more likely to be there when you need them.

However, we want to warn you in advance: You'll generally pay more for the products featured below because they must compensate their staff of audiologists and technicians, who, in most cases, will guide you through the initial setup and then support you throughout your journey to better hearing. This can be easily worth the extra money, particularly if you are a first-time user, have more complex hearing needs, and expect to use your hearing aids for more than a couple of years.

It has also been our general observation that, depending on the company, scheduling a real-time appointment with a hearing provider or technician can take several days or even weeks. So patience may be required!

In this article, we’ll help you navigate your options and identify those companies that we've found supply exceptional online professional service and support.

How we picked the best online hearing aids

In selecting the best online hearing aids, we focused exclusively on over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid manufacturers that provide direct access to licensed professionals—such as audiologists or hearing instrument specialists—through telehealth services. To qualify, companies needed to offer video or phone-based support in addition to standard customer service, and at least one or more OTC products had to earn a HearAdvisor SoundGrade rating of “B” or higher. Because there is no widely accepted objective standard for measuring the quality of online hearing care, we combined multiple sources of evidence. Our evaluation drew on the real-world experiences of HearingTracker and HearAdvisor reviewers, along with feedback shared in the HearingTracker Consumer Forum. Where reviewers reported notable challenges—such as long wait times for professional support—we highlighted those issues in our write-ups to give readers a balanced perspective.

The online hearing aid brands featured below offer OTC hearing aids while providing you with good professional support via audiologists, hearing aid specialists, or trained technicians.

Jabra Enhance Select hearing aids

Jabra Enhance (previously known as Lively) offers three hearing aids: its flagship Select 700, mid-level Select 300, and budget-friendly Select 50R. All are rechargeable and all are available in only one form factor: a receiver-in-canal (RIC) hearing aid that sits behind your ear and has a thin wire leading to a receiver (speaker) in your ear canal. Be aware that there is also the Jabra Enhance Pro, a prescription hearing aid offered at $1,700 per pair exclusively at Costco and comes with professional care.

Jabra is a well-known consumer audio manufacturer that belongs to the Denmark-based GN Group, which also includes the ReSound and Beltone hearing aid brands. GN is a world leader and innovator in hearing aid technology.

  • Price: Select 700 ($1,995), Select 300 ($1,695), Select 50R ($1,195).
  • Style: Receiver in the ear (RIE, aka RIC).
  • Indication: Mild to moderate hearing loss.
  • Hearing test: Online hearing test or third-party audiogram, uploaded through the website during an order or shared via the app
  • Features: Bluetooth, rechargeable or replaceable battery, audio streaming and hands-free calling, automatic volume control.
  • Services: If a hearing test was provided, the aids are shipped pre-programmed, video orientation call, 7 days a week remote support.
  • Remote care: Licensed hearing care professionals from Jabra's U.S.-based audiology team, available for 3 years of follow-up care
  • Trial period: 100 days, risk-free with a full refund.
  • Warranty: 3-year warranty

Being from GN, these hearing aids resemble ReSound prescription hearing aids more than a typical OTC hearing aid. All three models (700, 300, and 50R) tested well in the HearAdvisor lab, earning an "A" SoundGrade and the lab's Expert Choice Award.

Although you'll generally receive good customer service, technical support, and troubleshooting from Jabra's Customer Support Team, in our experience, it can take a considerable amount of time to schedule an appointment, as well as a back-and-forth effort to resolve issues. Available 7 days a week, the Support Team assists you with onboarding and remotely (re)programs your hearing aid. The Jabra Enhance app also comes with comprehensive video tutorials and online instructions for self-support and troubleshooting.

HearAdvisor Audiologist Dr. Steve Taddei and one of our expert reviewers reported that the service and support received from Jabra were good; however, the initial telecare appointment took as long as 3 weeks. GN told us that it is actively working to reduce these response times.

HearAdvisor's Steve Taddei provides an overview of the Jabra Select 700 and his lab findings.

ELEHEAR hearing aids

ELEHEAR is a company based in China, with US headquarters near Chicago, that offers two surprisingly good OTC hearing aids with good online support for under $600. The company's AI-driven denoising and sophisticated sound processing inside its two receiver-in-canal (RIC) rechargeable models provide Bluetooth audio streaming, tinnitus relief, and even language translation.

Launched in October 2024, ELEHEAR Beyond offers essential OTC features and reliable performance for $431. Its latest product, Beyond Pro ($599) released in July 2025 adds more advanced sound processing, music optimization, feedback cancellation, and premium support features for users seeking higher-end clarity and functionality.

  • Price: Elehear Beyond Pro ($599 per set) and Beyond ($431).
  • Style: Receiver-in-canal (RIC).
  • Indication: Mild to moderate hearing loss.
  • Hearing test: Self-fitting via app-based hearing test for Beyond Pro, but the older Beyond model relies on presets (i.e., lacks on-ear testing). A third-party audiogram can be submitted via email or the app.
  • Features: Fully automatic with rechargeable hearing aid, with real-time translation, Bluetooth audio streaming, and AI-driven sound processing.
  • Services: Good onboarding and online/app-based support with remote programming, available Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm EST, though ElePro services are asynchronous
  • Remote care: Licensed U.S.-based audiologists via ElePro
  • Trial period: 45 days from the ELEHEAR website, but may vary by retailer.
  • Warranty: 1-year repair warranty.

In independent HearAdvisor testing, ELEHEAR Beyond Pro ranks second among OTC hearing aids, only behind the Sony CRE-E10 (reviewed below), earning an "A" SoundGrade and a 2025 Expert Choice Award from the lab. The company's earlier Beyond device, although it's a preset hearing aid (without an in-ear hearing test), is also highly ranked (currently at #5) among OTC devices.

ELEHEAR's online service and support are equally impressive for a product priced under $600. The second author (KS) sent a friend to secretly try their online support. It took three workdays before an appointment could be scheduled with an audiologist, and he reported that the audiologist "couldn't have been more friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.”

One drawback is that these hearing aids are slightly larger and less discreet than some of their RIC-style competitors due to their AI-driven processing; however, they are still comfortable to wear. They also have a lower durability rating (IPx5), so you may need to be more cautious with them around moisture and the elements.

Lexie & Eargo (LxE) hearing aids

Lexie Hearing and its sister company, Eargo, are two longtime leaders in direct-to-consumer hearing aid manufacturers; both offered online hearing aids well before the FDA officially enacted its OTC regulations in October 2022. The two companies merged into LxE Hearing in March 2025. As LxE CEO Nic Klopper told HearingTracker, there were at least two good reasons for this: 1) The companies had complementary product lines with Lexie focusing on behind-the-ear solutions, and Eargo focusing on in-the-ear solutions, and 2) Both are known for good patient onboarding and support with a dedicated staff of online providers.

ADVERTISEMENTad for ReSound

Lexie offers three models: its Lexie B2 Plus and B1 Powered by Bose and Lexie Lumen. The B1 with replaceable battery and B2 Plus rechargeable aids are both receiver-in-canal (RIC) models, while the Lumen uses a traditional behind-the-ear (BTE) style. The B2 Plus offers call streaming for iOS and compatible Android devices, while the B1 and Lumen models do not. Although you can listen to audio (e.g., music, podcasts, etc.) with the B2 Plus, the streaming is not optimized for this purpose. The B1 and B2 get their technology from Bose’s now-discontinued SoundControl hearing aid, which was launched in May 2021 and later discontinued after the company decided to focus more on its core consumer audio division.

  • Price: Lexie B2 Plus Powered by Bose ($999 per set), Lexie B1 Powered by Bose ($649), Lexie Lumen BTE ($299).
  • Style: B1 and B2 are receiver-in-canal (RIC), and Lumen is a traditional behind-the-ear (BTE).
  • Indication: Mild to moderate hearing loss.
  • Hearing test: Self-fitting via app-based hearing test. Experts do not program from external audiograms.
  • Features: Fully automatic for all devices, with rechargeable or replaceable battery (but no wireless audio streaming for B1 and Lumen).
  • Services: Excellent initial onboarding and continued 6-day/week support with a dedicated staff of online providers, available Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm CT, and Saturday 8am to 5pm CT. No remote programming, except for Lexie Lumen.
  • Remote care: Lexie Experts for support and guidance via Lexie app, available for the product's lifetime.
  • Trial period: 45-day risk-free trial period, starting on the day of hearing aid delivery (although you pay return shipping costs).
  • Warranty: 1-year warranty for repairs or replacement.

The Lexie B2 Plus (and by extension the B1, which uses essentially the same processing) is currently the fourth-best OTC hearing aid on the HearAdvisor Leaderboard, and earned an "A" SoundScore and Expert Choice Award from the independent lab. The B2 Plus features a newer app-based hearing test with recommended settings for sound more tailored to your unique hearing profile. Lexie Lumen is older tech but is still in the top 45% of all devices tested with a "B" SoundScore—which makes it a good value given its low price of $299.

ADVERTISEMENTad for ReSoundADVERTISEMENTad for Phonak

Lexie Hearing and Eargo have been recognized for their virtual onboarding and orientation processes, telecare services, and post-purchase support. Both companies employ dedicated audiologists and hearing aid specialists to assist customers through the setup process, as well as subsequent fine-tuning and troubleshooting throughout the product's lifetime.

However, except for Lexie Lumen, they do not offer remote programming. And, as with the other companies in this review, it can sometimes take a while to get a virtual appointment.

Lexie B2 Plus Hearing Aids: Lab Review and Sound Samples
Dr. Steve Taddei of the independent HearAdvisor lab provides his findings on the Lexie B2 Plus Powered by Bose hearing aid.

Eargo, Lexie's new sister company, is known for its tiny, discreet, completely-in-canal (CIC) designs, good service, but relatively pricy hearing aids. Its offerings include three rechargeable models: the flagship Eargo 8 CIC ($2,699), the Eargo SE CIC ($1,699), and the Link by Eargo ($799) earbud, with the latter being the company's only product with audio streaming for compatible iOS and Android devices. To get a good flavor for these devices, see HearingTracker audiologist Matthew Allsop's review of the slightly older Eargo 7.

Audicus prescription hearing aids

Audicus markets hearing aids made by Sonova, the world’s largest hearing aid company and the parent group of Phonak, Unitron, and Sennheiser. You can choose from four hearing aids: Omni 2, Spirit 2, Wave 2, and Mini 2.

ADVERTISEMENTad for Starkey

To have your hearing aid fitted, you need to complete the company’s online hearing test and submit an audiogram (you can also take a hearing test at one of the few Audicus locations in New York, Chicago, or Denver).

When you’re ready to make a purchase, you can either pay for your Audicus hearing aids in full or opt for a monthly membership; both are available with per-pair or per-ear pricing. The membership includes basic accessories and unlimited remote adjustments, and you’re eligible for a free trade-in every 18 months. You can cancel your membership at any time, but please note that you will be required to return the hearing aids and any remaining accessories.

  • Price: $998 to $3,398 per pair upfront (financing available) or $78-138 plus a $100 setup fee with a monthly membership. More recently, the company launched a new subscription product that lets users access advanced hearing aid technology and on-demand support for only $99/month.
  • Styles: Options of RIC, BTE, and Completely-in-canal (CIC) models.
  • Indication: Mild to moderate and mild to severe hearing loss.
  • Hearing test: Online hearing test or third-party audiogram, supplied via upload, fax, text, or email. Aids are shipped pre-programmed.
  • Features: Depending on model, Bluetooth, replaceable or rechargeable battery, audio streaming and hands-free calling, optional TV Connector if needed, IP68 rating (dust and water resistant).
  • Services: Free hearing aid reprogramming, add-on subscriptions for replacement parts, repairs, clean & care services, loss replacement.
  • Remote care: U.S.-based hearing specialists or audiologists, available on demand. Support is available for the product's lifetime via app, phone, email, video, chat, or text from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm ET.
  • Trial period: 100-days, risk-free with a full refund.
  • Warranty: 2-year warranty covering repairs and unlimited reprogramming

Other online companies with good service and support to consider

Here are a couple more companies and products to consider...

Lucid Hearing and Sam's Club: A Unique Buying Proposition

One of the largest and oldest manufacturers of DTC/OTC hearing aids, Lucid is probably best known as the sole supplier for Sam's Club hearing aids, and operates its Lucid Hearing Centers. Its flagship OTC hearing aid, Lucid Tala, is a rechargeable, Bluetooth earbud-style device that is currently the third-highest ranked OTC by HearAdvisor and has earned an "A” SoundGrade and an Expert Choice Award.

ADVERTISEMENTad for PhonakADVERTISEMENTad for Signia

Editor's note: Lucid's website has been offline since mid-May 2026, and the company has lost its operational role at Sam's Club hearing centers to NationsBenefits. At least one forum member has reported that Sam's Club is no longer honoring warranties or providing accessories for previously purchased Lucid hearing aids (unverified). Until Lucid confirms its status, we recommend holding off on new purchases.

Tala is highly effective at speech enhancement but is relatively pricey ($1,299) for an earbud-type device with underwhelming Bluetooth audio quality and a low Ingress Protection (IP 22) rating for resistance against moisture and debris. The Bluetooth-enabled Lucid Engage RIC rechargeable ($850) or replaceable battery model ($650) also scored high in HearAdvisor testing and might be a better option for those who prefer a more traditional form factor. Lucid also makes a good-performing ("B” SoundGrade), discreet in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aid called Enrich Pro ($1,000).

Lucid Hearing offers exceptional online support, staffed by audiologists and hearing aid specialists, with lifetime product support available via phone, email, or chat, as well as a standard 1-year warranty. If you purchase Lucid OTC hearing aids from Sam's Club (e.g., Engage or Fio), you can get them programmed from a professional there for a fee. OTC aids from Sam's can also be traded up for a prescription aid within the trial period, making Sam's Club a unique option when looking for OTC hearing aids.

JVC hearing aids

JVC/Kenwood is probably best known for its car stereos, but it also makes two hearing aid models. The JVC EH-Z1500 ($500) is a Bluetooth traditional behind-the-ear (BTE) model with replaceable batteries, which received a "B" SoundScore from the HearAdvisor lab. It features a great design for a mid-priced OTC hearing aid, offering good sound quality, utility, and online support.

ADVERTISEMENTad for Signia

One of its outstanding features is the AI-driven Tuned app that provides you with a "virtual assistant,” designed to enhance user engagement, motivation, and education. The Tuned system also uses coaching and gamified instruction for people interested in learning how to use their hearing aids more effectively.

In June 2025, the company announced its JVC EH2000, which is reportedly enhanced with stronger battery life, advanced personalization tools, and direct streaming support for phone calls and media. However, at this writing (late July), it hasn't made an appearance on the JVC website. Intricon, the white-label manufacturer of JVC hearing aids, sold its hearing health division in late-2024 to Huizhou Jinghao Medical Technology Co., Ltd., a publicly listed Chinese company specializing in hearing aids.

Should you buy hearing aids online?

Buying hearing aids online is convenient, but is it a good idea? It depends. OTC hearing aids are cheaper and the turnaround time tends to be faster, too. On the flipside, you will miss out on a comprehensive hearing test and professional services, including the assurance of a proper audiogram and important hearing aid fitting considerations like real-ear measurements.

ADVERTISEMENTad for WidexADVERTISEMENTad for Yeasound

Audiologists also caution that you might need time to adjust to hearing sounds again, which is why hearing clinics offer multiple follow-up visits and careful adjustments. You should also be aware that, although rare, hearing loss can be a warning sign of a more serious health issue. While not a replacement for a visit to the audiologist, you can self-screen for ear disease risk by taking the very quick online questionnaire, Consumer Ear Disease Risk Assessment (CEDRA).

You don't just take hearing aids and go. You need a good service program with [hearing aids] to get them programmed correctly for your loss and help you adjust to them.

Danielle Gorsky, AuD

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) recommends you consult a local audiologist before you purchase an online hearing aid. Professionals can examine (and clean if needed) your ear canals, test and diagnose your hearing loss, provide an audiogram, recommend a suitable hearing aid.

They can also help you find out whether your insurance will cover the costs. For example, Medicare can cover your in-clinic hearing test (but not your hearing aid purchase) if your doctor refers you for an exam.

ADVERTISEMENTad for Yeasound

There are several online hearing tests that can generate a reasonable facsimile of your hearing loss; however, a professional hearing test permits better fine-tuning, plus gives you all the above benefits. Hearing care practices usually charge you between $100-$200 for a hearing exam and audiogram, and some provide them for free (if you have a hearing loss, you can expect them to try to sell you a hearing aid).

If you have mild to moderate hearing loss, however, online hearing aids can be an effective and economical choice. Once you’ve ruled out causes that require professional treatment, and made sure your hearing loss is appropriate for self-treatment, you can consider addressing your hearing loss with an online-purchase hearing aid.

Does your insurance cover online hearing aids?

Unfortunately, Medicare doesn’t cover hearing aids, although some employee insurance and Medicare Advantage programs do. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to see if they cover hearing aids.

If you have access to a flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) through your employer’s health insurance plan, you may get reimbursed for the cost of purchasing a hearing aid. If you don’t have any insurance coverage at all, you might at least be able to get a tax break.

Remote Care Limits

Remote care can match much of what clinics offer, i.e., professional programming, audiogram-based fitting, and ongoing adjustments. However, remote adjustments lack the precision of in-clinic real-ear verification.

1

Support quality varies more than product quality: The best OTC hearing aid means little if the company behind it is hard to reach or slow to respond. Look beyond specs to what's actually included: who provides support, how (video vs. asynchronous), when, and for how long.

2

You get what you pay for, but not always in the way you expect: Products on this list cost more than typical OTC aids because they fund a staff of audiologists and specialists. That overhead buys better long-term outcomes, especially for first-time users, but it doesn't buy the same outcomes as a professionally fitted prescription aid.

3

Patience is part of the deal: Even the best-rated telehealth providers can take days or weeks to respond or schedule a real-time appointment. If fast access to professional support is a priority, that should factor into your choice as much as price or sound performance.
